Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

A lot of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are bad and to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. Some foods actually do elevate your mood when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, you might be amazed to learn, are great at combating depression. Just make sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for raising your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Try to eat an egg and feel a lot happier!

Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all wonderful for improving your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to boost your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific source of protein.

If you wish to defeat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you fight your depression.

It’s easy to fight your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all excellent for helping you feel happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! These grains can help your mood elevate since it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest them more quickly than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental acuity while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you consume green tea. And now you know green tea can help you be happier also!

As you can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you to feel better! Try some of these instead!
