Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood

Mostly, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to consume. Some foods honestly do boost your mood when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really terrific at fighting back depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the yolk. Every time you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for boosting your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Consume an egg and be happy!

Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more of it you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Nuts, along with elevating your mood, can be a super protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you want to feel better. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. DHA and omega-3s are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight depression.

It’s easy to overcome your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really great for helping increase your happiness levels. They help you feel full also which can truly help to improve your mood. It’s not hard to feel low when you feel hungry! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. You digest them more quickly than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is actually excellent for your mood. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is chock-full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you become better. Now you know it can help improve your mood also!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!
