Information on How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

Most of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we ought to keep away from them. Often, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be super healthy and good for you. There are several foods that, when you consume them, could boost your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you combat depression. You need to make sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you improve your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try eating a couple of eggs to feel better!

Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all good for elevating your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The more you have of it, the happier you will feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a great protein food source.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you want to beat back depression. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you fight your depression.

Grains can be wonderful for fighting a terrible mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you have a happier mood. They help you feel full also which can actually help to improve your mood. Feeling famished can truly make you feel awful! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your sugar levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Your mood can truly be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea has been found to be packed full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also calming the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you feel so much healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Go with these hints instead!
