Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

Most of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are not good and should be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. Several foods honestly do raise your mood when you consume them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you may be amazed to learn, are wonderful at fighting depression. You must be sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolk especially, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try eating an egg and cheer up!

Make a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is possible because these foods are rich in magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of bettering your mood, can be a super source of protein.

Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to feel better. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you fight your depression.

Grains can be good for fighting a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. These grains can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling starved can truly make you feel terrible! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not hard to digest. You digest these foods faster than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea has been found to be packed full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while simultaneously calming the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to get healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know it can help improve your mood too!

As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Go with these suggestions instead!
