Foods That Make You Happy

In general, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and have to be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be extremely nourishing and good for you. There are some foods that, when you eat them, may improve your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really wonderful at beating back depression. You should be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that affect your mood. Eat a couple of eggs to jolly up!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all great for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein source.

If you wish to beat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fats. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously boost your mood.

Grains can be wonderful for overcoming a terrible mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are terrific at helping you feel better. These foods fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. Feeling hungry can truly make you feel awful! These grains can improve your mood since it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these foods quicker than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is really excellent for your mood. You just knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is chock-full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also loosening up the rest of your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to get healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are aware that green tea helps you to raise your moods also!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try a few of these suggestions instead.
