Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

A lot of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are terrible and should be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is candy or another junk food, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be super nutritious and good for you. Several foods honestly do elevate your mood when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually great at fighting back depression. Just make sure that you do not toss the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Try eating some eggs to jolly up!

Put together a trail mixfrom a variety of seeds and nuts. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is possible because these foods are rich in magnesium which boosts serotonin production. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The higher your serotonin levels, the more pleasant you will feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

If you would like to defeat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.

It’s not hard to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly great for helping boost your happiness levels. They can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. You digest these foods more quickly than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is high in a certain amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid basically stimulates brain waves. This helps raise your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you become so much healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood too!

So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try some of these tips instead.
