Use Food to Elevate Your Mood

Most of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we have to keep away from them. At times, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be super nutritious and good for you. Several foods actually do raise your mood when you consume them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to learn, are fantastic at combating depression. You should see to it, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to improve your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try eating an egg and be happy!

Put together a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all helpful for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more you have of it, the more pleasant you will feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a fantastic protein source.

If you want to defeat depression, try eating some cold water fish. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you battle your depression.

Some grains are really wonderful for fighting off bad moods. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all good for helping you feel happier. They can help you feel full for longer too, which can help your mood too. Feeling starved can actually make you feel awful! These grains can elevate your mood as it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your blood sugar which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were just waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel a lot healthier. Now you know that it helps you to lift your moods also!

So you see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you just so to feel better! Test out these suggestions instead!
