Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood

Many of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we should stay away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. There are some foods that really can improve your moods when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly great at beating back depression. You need to be sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–run better. Try to eat an egg and feel a lot better!

Put together a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a terrific source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent if you are wanting to feel better. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you overcome your depression.

Grains can be wonderful for fighting a bad mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are great at helping you be happier. These grains can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood sugar which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is really excellent for your mood. You knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is high in a certain amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!

So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you want to feel better! Try a few of these tips instead.
