Foods That Make Your Mood Better

Most of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are not good and must be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to consume. Some foods really do raise your mood when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really terrific at beating back depression. Just be sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, especially the yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Eat a couple of eggs to jolly up!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Nuts, on top of raising your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you wish to combat depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you overcome depression.

Some grains are really excellent for driving away bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are terrific at helping you feel better. These grains can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. It’s not hard to feel depressed when you feel famished! These grains can improve your mood as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your blood sugar which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea has been found to be packed full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while also relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you become so much healthier. Now you are well aware that it helps you to raise your moods as well!

See, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
