Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

Many of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we need to avoid them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be extremely nourishing and good for you. Some foods really do elevate your mood when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, test out a few of these.

Eggs, you may be astonished to find out, are fantastic at battling depression. Just make sure that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are full of B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for boosting your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Try eating some eggs to jolly up!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of it in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein source.

If you want to beat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3 fats and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you overcome depression.

It’s not difficult to overcome your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all excellent for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These grains fill you up better and that can help you with your moods also. Feeling starved can actually make you feel terrible! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest these grains quicker than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You were sure green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is high in a specific amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This helps better your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be so much healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood too!

You can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Try some of these instead!
