Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood

In general, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and need to be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to eat. There are several foods that, when you consume them, may improve your mood. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really terrific at dealing with depression. You need to see to it, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. When you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you elevate your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Try eating an egg and jolly up!

Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is possible because these foods are rich in magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein source.

Cold water fish are good if you wish to be in a better mood. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3s. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.

Grains can be wonderful for fighting a bad mood. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all great for helping you feel better. They help you feel full too which can really help to make your mood better. It’s not difficult to feel a little bit off when you are starving! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not hard to digest. You digest these foods faster than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!

Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try some of these suggestions instead.
