Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

Mostly, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and should be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to eat. Some foods really do raise your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you combat depression. Just make sure that you don’t get rid of the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolks especially, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that dictate your mood. Eat an egg and feel happier!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all wonderful for raising your mood. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein source.

Cold water fish are good if you want to feel happier. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously boost your mood.

Grains can be excellent for fighting a terrible mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are fantastic at helping you be happier. They help you feel full as well which can actually help to make your mood better. It’s not difficult to feel low when you are starving! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your glucose levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is actually excellent for your mood. You were simply expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while also relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to get healthy when you consume green tea. And now you are aware that green tea can help raise your mood also!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try some of these hints instead.
