Foods That Make You Happy

Many of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are not good and to be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is very true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to consume. There are some foods that, when you eat them, can better your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually terrific at dealing with depression. You must make sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you raise your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Try eating an egg and cheer up!

Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible because these foods are high in magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a fantastic protein food source.

Cold water fish are great if you are wanting to feel happier. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all high in omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.

Some grains are actually excellent for fighting off bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you feel better. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were simply anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is found to be packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while also loosening up the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you feel healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!

So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a couple of of these hints instead.
