Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

A lot of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are not good and are to be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. There are several foods that actually can raise your moods when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you might be amazed to learn, are great at battling depression. Just be sure that you don’t get rid of the yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for lifting up your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Try to eat an egg and feel better!

Put together a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all wonderful for elevating your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the better you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you would like to feel happier. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you overcome your depression.

Some grains are really excellent for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually wonderful for helping boost your happiness levels. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods as well. Feeling hungry can truly make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest and process. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea helps you to elevate your moods also!

As you can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Try several of these instead!
