Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood

In general, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and must be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be perfectly healthy and good for us to consume. Several foods really do elevate your mood when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually wonderful at beating back depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you improve your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Eat an egg and cheer up!

Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a great protein source.

Cold water fish are great if you would like to be in a better mood. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.

Some grains are really excellent for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you feel better. They can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. It’s not hard to feel a little bit off when you are starving! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s easy for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You were simply waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is high in a specific amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while simultaneously calming the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you become better. And now you are aware that it can help you be happier also!

So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you so you can feel better! Try these tips instead!
