How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

A lot of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are terrible and are to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. At times, comfort foods can be perfectly healthy and good for us to consume. There are some foods that basically can boost your moods when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to find out, are great at fighting depression. Just be sure that you don’t get rid of the yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to improve your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Try eating a few eggs to jolly up!

Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a great protein source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you want to beat back depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all high in omega-3 and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight back depression.

It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually wonderful for helping increase your happiness levels. These foods fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods as well. Feeling hungry can be terrible! These grains can help your mood elevate since it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest these foods more quickly than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is truly good for your mood. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This helps raise your mental acuity while relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you become better. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to raise your moods too!

Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
