Use Food to Improve Your Mood

Most of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are not good and should be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to consume. Some foods honestly do improve your mood when you consume them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to learn, are terrific at fighting depression. Just see to it that you do not throw out the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Eat an egg and be happy!

Make a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the happier you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a great source of protein.

If you wish to battle depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fats. DHA and omega-3s are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.

It’s easy to overcome your bad mood when you eat grains. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all good for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They help you feel full also which can really help to better your mood. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! These grains can help your mood elevate since it’s easy for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood sugar which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is actually excellent for your mood. You were simply expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is found to be chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you become so much healthier. Now you are aware that it helps you to elevate your moods as well!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you so you can feel better! Try a couple of of these tips instead.
