Foods That Make You Happy

Mostly, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and have to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is very true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly healthy and good for us to eat. There are some foods that, when you eat them, can boost your mood. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a few of these.

Eggs, you might be amazed to find out, are great at fighting depression. Just see to it that you do not throw out the yolk. Every time you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Eat a few eggs to cheer up!

Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all helpful for elevating your mood. This is possible since these foods have a bunch of magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The more of it you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a great source of protein.

If you want to beat depression, try eating some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you overcome depression.

Some grains are truly excellent for repelling bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are fantastic at helping you have a happier mood. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods as well. Feeling hungry can be awful! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your glucose levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is actually excellent for your mood. You knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in a certain amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid basically stimulates brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while simultaneously loosening up the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are aware that it helps you to lift your moods too!

As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you wish to feel better! Try these suggestions instead!
