Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood

A lot of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we must keep away from them. Often, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be extremely nutritious and good for you. There are several foods that, when you consume them, may boost your mood. If you feel a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, you may be astonished to find out, are great at combating depression. You must be sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try to eat an egg and feel a lot better!

Put together a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is possible since these foods are rich in magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that tells your brain how you feel at all times. The more of it you have, the happier you are going to feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a superb protein source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you are wanting to fight depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight depression.

Grains can be good for fighting a terrible mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you feel better. They fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods as well. Feeling starved can actually bring you down! These grains can improve your mood as it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest them more quickly than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You were simply anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in a certain amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You already knew that green tea helps you become better. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!

See, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you want to feel better! Test out these tips instead!
