Learn How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

Most of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we have to keep away from them. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. Several foods actually do boost your mood when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, you may be surprised to learn, are terrific at battling depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Consume an egg and jolly up!

Make a trail mixfrom a variety of seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all great for raising your mood. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a great source of protein.

If you want to beat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly boost your mood.

It’s not difficult to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you be happier. These foods can help you feel full for longer also, helping you feel better. Feeling hungry can be terrible! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you consume green tea. And now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier too!

So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Go with these tips instead!
