Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
Many of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are bad and to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that really can raise your moods when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you fight depression. Just see to it that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try to eat an egg and feel a lot better!
Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Nuts, in addition to elevating your mood, can be a great source of protein.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you are wanting to battle depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fats. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you overcome your depression.
Some grains are truly excellent for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly wonderful for helping increase your happiness levels. They help you feel full also which can actually help to make your mood better. It’s not difficult to feel low when you are starving! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Green tea is wonderful for moods. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is high in a certain amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You already knew green tea could help you feel better. Now you know that green tea helps you to elevate your moods too!
So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Go with these tips instead!
