Foods That Make Your Mood Better

Many of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are terrible and should be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. There are a number of foods that really can boost your moods when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that affect your mood. Consume an egg and jolly up!

Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of it you have, the better you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a great protein food source.

If you would like to fight depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all high in omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can really help you overcome depression.

It’s not hard to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really excellent for helping raise your happiness levels. These grains fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. It’s not hard to feel a little bit off when you are starving! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel so much healthier. And now you are aware that it can help you be happier too!

So you see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
