Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

Many of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we have to avoid them. Often, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. A number of foods actually do improve your mood when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly terrific at fighting back depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for elevating your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Try to eat an egg and feel happier!

Put together a trail mixfrom a variety of seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all good for elevating your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein source.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to fight depression. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you battle your depression.

It’s easy to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling starved can truly make you feel terrible! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest them quicker than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You were just expecting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not difficult to be healthy when you consume green tea. And now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier as well!

As you can see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
