Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood

Most of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we must keep away from them. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Other times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to eat. Some foods really do improve your mood when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional boost, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually terrific at dealing with depression. You need to see to it, however, that what you make includes the yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for elevating your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try consuming a couple of eggs to jolly up!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all great for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of it you have, the better you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a great protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you are wanting to battle depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you battle your depression.

Some grains are really wonderful for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually wonderful for helping boost your happiness levels. They help you feel full as well which can actually help to make your mood better. Feeling hungry can be terrible! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not hard to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your glucose levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is really excellent for your mood. You were just expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is found to be packed full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while at the same calming the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be better. And now you know green tea can help improve your mood too!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Test out these tips instead!
