Use Food to Elevate Your Mood

A lot of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are terrible and are to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. Several foods actually do improve your mood when you consume them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a few of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you battle depression. You must make sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for lifting up your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Try to eat an egg and feel a lot better!

Put together a trail mixfrom a variety of seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of it you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a great protein source.

If you would like to overcome depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight back depression.

It’s not hard to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are terrific at helping you feel better. They can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. Feeling famished can truly make you feel terrible! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were sure green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while simultaneously loosening up the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that it helps you to lift your moods too!

As you can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try a few of these tips instead.
