  3. Prepare 1/2 cup toor dal

Method for making Masala Khichdi recipe In a kadai add the oil and then add mustard seeds, and let them sizzle.

Instructions to make Masala Khichdi:
  1. In a pressure pan add oil and ghee for tempering. Switch on the gas and the add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, bay leaf and cinnamon sticks.
  2. While the tempering is getting heated, in a bowl take rice and all the dals. Wash them properly with water 3-4 times. Add some water and keep it aside.
  3. When mustard seeds crackles add chopped onions and let them cook till they turn pinkish.
  4. Now add all the dry spices to the pan and cook for a minute.
  5. Add all the remaining vegetables and some water and cook for a minute.
  6. Finally add the washed dals and rice to the pan with enough water. Close the pressure pan and cook it for two whistles on high flame then simmer the gas and then leave it for 10 minutes and switch off the gas.
  7. After the pan cools down serve the ready masala khichdi garnished with spring onions and served with kadhi.
