Use Food to Elevate Your Mood

Most of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we should keep away from them. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, may better your mood. When you feel a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are great for helping you battle depression. You need to be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Consume an egg and jolly up!

Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The higher your serotonin levels, the more pleasant you will feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a terrific source of protein.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you wish to battle depression. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you battle your depression.

Grains can be good for overcoming a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you be happier. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling famished can really make you feel awful! These grains can improve your mood since it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest these grains faster than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is really good for your mood. You were simply expecting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is chock-full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This helps improve your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be healthier. Now you are aware that it helps you to raise your moods also!

So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try some of these instead!
