Try Using Food to Elevate Your Mood

In general, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and must be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be extremely nourishing and good for you. Some foods really do elevate your mood when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly great at fighting back depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. Every time you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you improve your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try eating some eggs to cheer up!

Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all wonderful for elevating your mood. This is possible since these foods are high in magnesium which promotes your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of it in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Nuts, along with raising your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you wish to combat depression. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you fight your depression.

Some grains are really wonderful for driving away bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are terrific at helping you feel happier. They help you feel full as well which can actually help to better your mood. It’s not hard to feel a little bit off when you are starving! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were simply expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This helps improve your mental focus while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you drink green tea. Now you are aware that green tea helps you to lift your moods as well!

So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try some of these instead!
