Foods That Make Your Mood Better

Mostly, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and have to be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be really healthy and good for you. There are several foods that actually can improve your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really wonderful at fighting back depression. You must see to it, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to boost your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Consume an egg and feel happier!

Put together a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all helpful for improving your mood. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein food source.

If you wish to beat depression, try eating some cold water fish. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you overcome depression.

Grains can be good for overcoming a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly wonderful for helping boost your happiness levels. These foods fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. Feeling starved can truly bring you down! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest and process. You digest these grains more quickly than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You were just waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You probably already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!

As you can see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a few of these tips instead.
