Discover How to Improve Your Mood with Food

In general, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and must be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is very true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that, when you consume them, could better your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, test out some of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you fight depression. You need to make sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for elevating your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Try consuming a couple of eggs to feel better!

Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you are wanting to feel happier. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3s. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly raise your mood.

Some grains are truly wonderful for fighting off bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are great at helping you be happier. They fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods too. It’s not hard to feel a little bit off when you are starving! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. You digest these grains faster than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Your mood can truly be helped by green tea. You were just expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This helps raise your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you become a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood also!

As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you wish to feel better! Try a few of these hints instead.
