Use Food to Elevate Your Mood

Many of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are bad and should be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be really nourishing and good for you. A number of foods honestly do boost your mood when you eat them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, test out some of these.

Eggs, you may be astonished to find out, are great at combating depression. You need to be sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. Every time you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are high in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for raising your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that affect your mood. Try eating an egg and jolly up!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given time. The more of it you have, the better you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a great protein food source.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you are wanting to fight depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.

Some grains are actually excellent for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really excellent for helping raise your happiness levels. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods as well. Feeling hungry can really make you feel awful! These grains can improve your mood as it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest these foods faster than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you be better. Now you know that applies to your mood too!

You can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you to feel better! Try several of these instead!
