Kabocha Squash Risotto

Hey everyone, it’s Jim, welcome to our recipe site. Today, I will show you a way to make a special dish, kabocha squash risotto. One of my favorites. This time, I am going to make it a bit unique. This will be really delicious.

Kabocha Squash Risotto is one of the most popular of recent trending foods in the world. It is simple, it’s quick, it tastes yummy. It is enjoyed by millions every day. They are fine and they look fantastic. Kabocha Squash Risotto is something that I’ve loved my whole life.

Cut the squash into chunks, removing the skin and the seeds. Kabocha (not to be confused with the drink Kombucha) is a wonderful variety of squash with an earthy taste similar to pumpkin. It is more complex than the ubiquitous butternut squash frequently used in risotto and it has the bonus of having an edible skin. Usually I have a gage in my head that lets me know how good the dinner I'm making is going to be.

To begin with this particular recipe, we have to prepare a few components. You can cook kabocha squash risotto using 11 ingredients and 8 steps. Here is how you can achieve that.

The ingredients needed to make Kabocha Squash Risotto:
  1. Prepare 100 grams Kabocha squash
  2. Take 180 ml White rice
  3. Prepare 1/2 Onion
  4. Prepare 2 slice Bacon
  5. Get 1/4 Carrot
  6. Prepare 1 Mushrooms you like
  7. Prepare 2 cubes ●Consommé cube
  8. Get 1/2 tsp ●Turmeric
  9. Prepare 600 ml ●Water
  10. Get 10 grams Butter
  11. Take 40 grams Cheese

While it looks green and unripe on the outside, the inside will be bright orange and wonderful. It has almost a pumpkin flavor, but I think it's a bit more rich somehow. Kabocha squash is commonly called Japanese pumpkin and has a sweet, moist flavor reminiscent of chestnuts. This recipe was created by Carol Field, an expert on Italian cuisine, and it doesn't require constant stirring and undivided attention like traditional risottos, such as the Mushroom Risotto I made last month.

Steps to make Kabocha Squash Risotto:
  1. Cut onion, bacon, carrot and kabocha squash into 1cm dice. Cut the mushrooms small as well. Wash the white rice and drain in a sieve.
  2. Put all the ● ingredients in a pan and heat. Turn off the heat once the consommé cube and the turmeric have dissolved.
  3. Put bacon, onion, carrot and mushroom into the pan and saute.
  4. When the onion becomes transparent, add the white rice.
  5. When the white rice is transparent, add 1/3 of the mixed ingredients from Step 2. Turn the heat to high, and continue sauteing to evaporate any liquid.
  6. Once some of the liquid has evaporated, add 1/2 of the mixed ingredients from Step 2. Keep the heat high and continue sauteing while continuing to evaporate the liquid.
  7. Once the liquid has reduced some more, add all of the remaining mixture from Step 2 and cover with a lid. Steam for 13 minutes on medium heat.
  8. Remove the lid. Add cheese and mix well. It's ready when the cheese has melted and it has mixed well with the rice.

This recipe was created by Carol Field, an expert on Italian cuisine, and it doesn't require constant stirring and undivided attention like traditional risottos, such as the Mushroom Risotto I made last month. You can use kabocha squash much like butternut in soups and stews, baked goods and breakfast items. If the squash you have is green but looks more like an acorn squash, it may be a buttercup squash. To pick a good kabocha squash at the store, look for one that is firm and has a deep-colored green rind.

Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

A lot of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we have to keep away from them. At times, if your comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to eat. Several foods honestly do improve your mood when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you combat depression. Just see to it that you do not throw out the yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are stuffed full of B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that dictate your mood. Consume an egg and cheer up!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is possible since these foods have a bunch of magnesium which increases your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you are wanting to combat depression. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fats. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.

Grains can be wonderful for fighting a bad mood. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all excellent for helping you feel happier. These foods can help you feel full for longer as well, which is a mood improver. Feeling starved can be awful! These grains can help your mood elevate since it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest these grains faster than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is truly great for your mood. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel a lot healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood also!

So you see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try a couple of of these suggestions instead.
