Foods That Make You Happy

For the most part, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and should be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. There are some foods that, when you eat them, may boost your mood. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really wonderful at beating back depression. You need to see to it, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for boosting your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Consume an egg and jolly up!

Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to increase your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Nuts, along with bettering your mood, can be a super protein source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you are wanting to battle depression. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.

It’s not hard to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you be happier. These grains can help you feel full for longer too, which can help your mood too. It’s easy to feel low when you are starving! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your sugar levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with a specific amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while at the same calming the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to become healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
