How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

A lot of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we must avoid them. At times, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be perfectly healthy and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, could better your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are terrific for helping you fight depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Try eating an egg and jolly up!

Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all great for elevating your mood. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the better you are going to feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a great source of protein.

If you want to fight depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight back depression.

It’s easy to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. They help you feel full also which can truly help to improve your mood. Feeling starved can really bring you down! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are easy to digest. You digest these foods faster than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea has been found to be chock-full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental focus while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you feel better. Now you know that green tea helps you to elevate your moods also!

You can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Try a few of these suggestions instead.
