Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood

Many of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we should stay away from them. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be super nutritious and good for you. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, may better your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you fight depression. Just make sure that you do not toss the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that affect your mood. Consume an egg and cheer up!

Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all wonderful for elevating your mood. This is possible since these foods have a bunch of magnesium which boosts serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more of it in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of raising your mood, can be a superb protein source.

If you would like to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can really help you overcome depression.

Grains can be wonderful for driving away a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually wonderful for helping boost your happiness levels. These grains can help you feel full for longer also, helping you feel better. It’s easy to feel low when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is actually excellent for your mood. You knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid basically stimulates brain waves. This helps raise your mental focus while relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become better. And now you know it can help improve your mood as well!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
