Use Food to Improve Your Mood

Many of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we have to avoid them. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. There are several foods that really can raise your moods when you eat them. If you seem to be a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, you may be amazed to find out, are wonderful at fighting depression. Just make sure that you don’t get rid of the yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that dictate your mood. Eat an egg and cheer up!

Put together a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is possible since these foods are rich in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of it in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a fantastic source of protein.

Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to feel happier. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.

It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really great for helping boost your happiness levels. They help you feel full as well which can actually help to make your mood better. It’s not difficult to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these foods faster than other foods which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This helps better your mental sharpness while calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you be better. And now you are aware that it can help improve your mood as well!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
