Try Using Food to Elevate Your Mood

For the most part, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, can better your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, you may be amazed to learn, are terrific at fighting depression. Just see to it that you do not toss the yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you improve your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that dictate your mood. Eat an egg and feel a lot happier!

Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that tells the brain how to feel at any given moment. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein food source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to battle depression. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight back depression.

It’s easy to overcome your bad mood when you are eating grains. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are excellent at helping you have a happier mood. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. It’s not difficult to feel low when you feel famished! These grains can improve your mood because it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest them faster than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is actually excellent for your mood. You were simply expecting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel so much healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood too!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Try some of these instead!
