Learn How to Boost Your Mood with Food

For the most part, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be really healthy and good for you. There are several foods that really can boost your moods when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you combat depression. You need to be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for lifting up your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Try eating an egg and be happy!

Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to raise your mood. This is possible because these foods are rich in magnesium which boosts serotonin production. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein source.

If you would like to defeat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.

Grains can be good for driving away a terrible mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are terrific at helping you have a happier mood. They can help you feel full for longer also, helping you feel better. It’s not hard to feel depressed when you feel famished! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Green tea is really good for your mood. You were just anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a certain amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while also calming the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to get healthy when you drink green tea. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to elevate your moods also!

As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a few of these suggestions instead.
