Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood

A lot of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are terrible and must be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is very true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. A number of foods really do raise your mood when you consume them. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, test out a couple of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you battle depression. Just be sure that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try to eat an egg and feel a lot happier!

Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all great for elevating your mood. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin production. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific source of protein.

If you wish to defeat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can really help you fight back depression.

It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. They help you feel full also which can actually help to improve your mood. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! These grains can improve your mood as it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest these foods quicker than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were simply expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You knew that green tea helps you be better. Now you are aware that it helps you to raise your moods also!

As you can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Try a couple of of these hints instead.
