Information on How to Boost Your Mood with Food

For the most part, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and have to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be very nourishing and good for us to eat. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, can improve your mood. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional boost, test out some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really great at fighting back depression. You must make sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. Whenever you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat an egg and cheer up!

Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a fantastic source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent if you are wanting to feel happier. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly elevate your mood.

It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really great for helping boost your happiness levels. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you feel famished! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. You digest these foods more quickly than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is really good for your mood. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You were already aware that green tea could help you be healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!

Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try these hints instead!
