Foods That Make You Happy

For the most part, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be extremely healthy and good for you. Several foods actually do boost your mood when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually terrific at beating back depression. Just see to it that you do not toss the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for boosting your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Consume an egg and feel happier!

Put together a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all wonderful for raising your mood. This is possible because these foods are high in magnesium which boosts serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel at all times. The higher your serotonin levels, the happier you will feel. Nuts, in addition to improving your mood, can be a great protein source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you want to beat back depression. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.

Some grains are truly excellent for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually great for helping raise your happiness levels. They help you feel full too which can truly help to make your mood better. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you feel hungry! These grains can help your mood elevate as it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were sure it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid called L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you be a lot healthier. Now you are aware that green tea can help improve your mood as well!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try some of these instead!
