Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

Many of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are not good and to be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be very nourishing and good for us to consume. There are some foods that actually can improve your moods when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly terrific at fighting back depression. You should be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. Whenever you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, particularly the egg yolks, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–function better. Consume an egg and feel a lot better!

Make a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a great protein food source.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you wish to battle depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously boost your mood.

It’s not difficult to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you feel happier. These grains can help you feel full for longer as well, which is a mood improver. Feeling starved can be awful! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. You digest them more quickly than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You were simply waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid basically stimulates brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also loosening up the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you feel so much healthier. Now you know green tea can help you be happier also!

You can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Try a few of these hints instead.
