Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood

Mostly, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be extremely nourishing and good for you. There are several foods that, when you consume them, can improve your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you combat depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, particularly the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Eat a couple of eggs to cheer up!

Make a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific source of protein.

If you would like to fight depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly boost your mood.

Grains can be good for driving away a bad mood. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all great for helping you feel better. These grains fill you up better and that can help you with your moods as well. Feeling famished can actually make you feel awful! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these foods quicker than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You already knew green tea could help you be so much healthier. Now you know it can help improve your mood also!

You can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try some of these suggestions instead.
