Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood

Mostly, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and must be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be very healthy and good for you. There are a number of foods that really can improve your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really terrific at beating back depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. When you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you improve your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Try consuming some eggs to feel better!

Make a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more of it in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of improving your mood, can be a super source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to be in a better mood. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.

Some grains are actually wonderful for repelling bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are excellent at helping you feel happier. They help you feel full as well which can really help to better your mood. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you feel hungry! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s easy for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood sugar which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is really excellent for your mood. You were sure green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood too!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try a few of these tips instead.
