Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood

Many of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are not good and must be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to consume. There are several foods that basically can raise your moods when you consume them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly great at beating back depression. Just be sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that affect your mood. Try eating a few eggs to feel better!

Put together a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more serotonin in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a great protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you want to feel happier. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.

Grains can be excellent for overcoming a bad mood. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all good for helping you feel better. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods as well. Feeling hungry can be awful! These grains can help your mood elevate since it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your glucose levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You were just waiting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while simultaneously calming the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be so much healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!

You can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you to feel better! Try some of these instead!
