Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

In general, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and need to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, could boost your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, test out a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually wonderful at beating back depression. You should be sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, especially the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Consume an egg and jolly up!

Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more of it in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a fantastic protein source.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you are wanting to fight depression. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you overcome your depression.

Grains can be great for fighting a bad mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you be happier. These grains can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. Feeling starved can be a real downer! These grains can improve your mood because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest these foods more quickly than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You were just anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is chock-full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while also calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you be a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!

You can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Test out these suggestions instead!
