How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

Mostly, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be extremely nutritious and good for you. There are several foods that really can improve your moods when you eat them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually wonderful at beating back depression. You should see to it, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, particularly the egg yolks, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Try consuming a couple of eggs to feel better!

Put together a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein source.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you are wanting to combat depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you overcome your depression.

Some grains are really wonderful for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really excellent for helping raise your happiness levels. They help you feel full too which can truly help to make your mood better. Feeling hungry can really make you feel awful! These grains can help your mood elevate as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your blood glucose which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were sure green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also calming the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you be healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!

As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you want to feel better! Try some of these suggestions instead.
