Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood

Most of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we ought to keep away from them. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. There are some foods that, when you eat them, could better your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you may be surprised to learn, are terrific at combating depression. You should make sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try eating some eggs to jolly up!

Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all helpful for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, in addition to raising your mood, can be a super source of protein.

If you would like to defeat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.

It’s not difficult to drive away your bad mood when you consume grains. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you have a happier mood. They help you feel full too which can actually help to improve your mood. Feeling famished can be a real downer! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s easy for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Green tea is truly great for your mood. You knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is high in a certain amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also calming the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that applies to your mood also!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Try these tips instead!
