Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood

Many of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we should avoid them. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be really healthy and good for you. There are several foods that, when you consume them, can improve your mood. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly great at fighting back depression. You need to make sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to improve your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Try eating a few eggs to feel better!

Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is possible as these foods are rich in magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more serotonin you have, the better you will feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific source of protein.

If you want to fight depression, try eating some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.

Grains can be great for overcoming a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually excellent for helping raise your happiness levels. They help you feel full also which can truly help to better your mood. Feeling famished can actually make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. You digest these foods faster than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is actually excellent for your mood. You knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental sharpness while relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become better. Now you are aware that it can help you be happier as well!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try these tips instead!
