Use Food to Boost Your Mood

Many of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we need to keep away from them. Sometimes, if the comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is very true. At times, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that really can improve your moods when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are great for helping you combat depression. Just be sure that you do not throw away the egg yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for boosting your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Try consuming a couple of eggs to feel better!

Put together a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all helpful for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more serotonin in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a great protein food source.

If you want to battle depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.

Some grains are actually wonderful for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually wonderful for helping raise your happiness levels. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. Feeling famished can be awful! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is actually great for your mood. You were simply expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you be a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!

So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
